Luuka: In a shocking report from Luuka district, two people have reportedly perished in a car accident at Nawansega in Bukoova town council.
The deceased include the former aspirant of Luuka district woman member of parliament, Giladys Aliyinza, and a wife to the deputy press secretary in the office of the president, Mr Faruk Kirunda.
Reports indicate that Aliyinza was travelling in a four-wheel drive double cabin that collided with face to face with a sugarcane truck.
The driver of the double cabin (yet to be identified) died instantly while Aliyinza breathed her last on the way to Musana Hospital in the neighbouring Kaliro district.
It is said that the two vehicles that were coming from opposite sides were over speeding, which is believed to have caused the accident.
Police have not yet confirmed the distressing incident.
A born of Ngobi Ndaaye at Lambaala village in Irongo subcounty, Aliyinza became popular in the 2021 general elections when she ran against the former Prsidency minister Esther Mbayo.
In the hotly competed race, National Resistance’s Mbayo won with 25,495 votes while Oliver Namwase (independent) was the second with 15885 votes.
National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Olivia Nabiryo was the third with only 11,120 votes, whereas Aliyinza emerged the fourth with a total of 9406 votes.
