Bugiri: The second day of the Busoga Prayer Week, organized by the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD), saw Christian believers and Busoga leaders gather at St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Waluwerere, in Bugiri District. The event provided a profound spiritual atmosphere, with attendees seeking God’s divine intervention for the transformation of the region.
Led by Rt. Rev. Paul Hannington Suubi, the Bishop of East Busoga Diocese, the faithful from across the region participated in a powerful evening service focused on praying for unity and blessings for Busoga.
The East African Community (EAC) Affairs Minister, Rebecca Kadaga, was the chief guest of the Bugiri fellowship. Represented by Luuka South MP Stephen Kisa, Dr. Kadaga urged the Basoga to support the initiative until the last day of the prayer week, scheduled for Sunday, October 21, 2024.
Kadaga shared testimonies of how previous prayers had led to several transformative events in the region.
“This is a holy event that everyone should attend throughout the week,” said the Kamuli Woman MP, Kadaga.
This is the third edition of the Busoga regional prayer week, which was introduced in 2022 by the BCD, a unifying body led by Mr. Anthony Mula, the Director General.
Addressing the faithful at St. Stephen’s Church, Mr. Mula emphasized the relevance of the prayers for the region, explaining that the crucial agenda behind these gatherings is to ask God to make Busoga a regional model in all aspects of development.
“Programs including education, health, infrastructure, and others are what we ask God to help us implement effectively. And, of course, we believe that through these prayers, He will hear us,” Mula said.
Among other dignitaries attending the service were Bugiri District Chairperson Mr. Davidson Mulumba, Bugiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Paul Kalikwani, members of the Busoga Consortium Secretariat, officials from the Busoga Kingdom led by Minister of Agriculture Owek. Sam Nkenga, religious leaders, and others.
The official prayers began on Monday, October 14, 2024, at St. Andrew’s Church, Bukoto, Kampala. Basoga living in Kampala were led by the Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, to gather for fellowship.
The sole aim of the prayers is to build cohesion in the region, in line with this year’s prayer week theme. The main celebration of the week will be held in Luuka District, where the President of Uganda is expected to attend as the chief guest.
