It’s of no doubt that a newly known and registered sports hub in Jinja, East Enders that kicked off their operations as early as last year through various engagements have landed an opportunity to manage and execute cricket activities in the Nile/Busoga region on behalf of Uganda Cricket Association but their commitment towards the growth of various sports in the region says it all.

This comes after organising a successful professional boxing match that attracted a number of boxers in the Busoga region and beyond at Jinja Town Hall on 8th April 2023 after close to 40 years in the area as one of their activities.

On 28th April 2023, East Enders signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Uganda Cricket Association that will see the hub take full control of not only promoting the game of cricket in the region but also execute cricket activities and events that seek to showcase cricket talent.

East Enders’ director, Isaac Imaka has always been clear on the mission, “this is a great opportunity for Busoga. I have always emphasized that we the new leaders from the region are on a mission to emancipate our people and community from poverty using practical means.”

“Sports is one of the proven ways through which individuals have come out of poverty and communities have been changed. With this MOU, expect cricket to be played on Islands, in villages, in the Prisons, by street kids, by persons with disabilities,” Isaac Imaka said adding that “we will try our best to see that talent from the region is seen and selected for bigger opportunities, that why we are East Enders.”

East Enders joins other regional stakeholders who have been given full mandate to run and manage cricket on behalf of Uganda Cricket Association in their respective regions.

East Enders’ work unfolded last year through Red-Ball cricket that was hosted at Jinja SS cricket oval, an event that took shape in December 2022 and January 2023 where boys in the region from various schools showcased their talent plus a number of national team players(Men).

But who is East Enders and where are they located.

Its one of the of the sports talent identification and promotional hubs that kicked off their operations in 2022 in Jinja City, Busoga region to lead the use of sports as a tool of fighting poverty in the region.

On top of cricket, the hub has now engaged into Tennis, Golf where they are currently on a talent identification, working with kids between the ages of 6-13 from communities and schools around the region.

But with the ambitions of the young and talented leaders at East Enders, the region could be heading in the right direction as far as sports is concerned but all awaits for what the hub has in stock.
