Cricket Cranes are all set for another exciting challenge as they head to Kigali, Rwanda, to defend their title at the ILT20 Africa Continental Cup from December 4–14, 2024. After their thrilling win at last year’s tournament in Nairobi, where they defeated Kenya by just one run, the team is ready to prove themselves once again.
The tournament will be held at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, where Uganda will compete in a round-robin format against Botswana, Nigeria, and hosts Rwanda. Each team will play each other, with the final match scheduled for December 14.
The Cricket Cranes come into the competition as defending champions, and this year, they are led by the new captain, Riazat Ali Shah. The squad includes some exciting changes, with players like Simon Ssesazi, Pascal Murungi, and Joseph Baguma returning to the side after impressing in the recent Emerging Invitational Tournament.
This will be Uganda’s first T20 tournament since the retirement of Brian Masaba, so the team is eager to explore new strategies and roles, especially in the batting lineup. Coach Abhay Sharma has been focused on giving younger players more chances to gain experience, while experienced players like Dinesh Nakrani and Riazat Ali Shah remain key to the team’s success.
With teams like Botswana and Nigeria also qualified for the Africa finals, Uganda’s matches will be crucial in testing their strength and maintaining their top spot.
