The Crested Cranes have emerged champions of this year’s CECAFA women championship, thanks to goals from Sandra Nabweteme and Fazila Ikwaput. Nabweteme netted twice while Ikwaput converted the third goal to sink Burundi’s chances of winning the coveted trophy.

Joelle Bukuru scored Burundi’s consolation goal in the 49th minute to bring the score to 3-1 by full time in the game that was played at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

This year’s CECAFA tournament attracted a total of eight nations including Burundi, Tanzania, Djibouti, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, South Sudan and hosts Uganda.
