Jinja city breathed a sigh of relief as the long arm of the law reached out to apprehend five notorious suspects terrorizing the city’s Northern division. Adam Ndiye, Henry Mudumba, Racheal Birungi, Bosco Nalucho, and an individual known as Musinguzi were arrested by the vigilant police force on Tuesday.

The daring operation took place at a school zone in Budhumbuli West, Bugembe, where the suspects were found hiding in the ceiling, armed with breaking implements. The arrest yielded a cache of dangerous weapons, including pangas, knives, iron bars, chloroform, and even fake national identity cards. Additionally, marijuana was seized from their hideout.

SP James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson, confirmed the successful operation, highlighting that the suspects will face charges of aggravated robbery. One of the apprehended criminals, Bosco Nalucho, was identified through police CCTV cameras as being involved in a recent attack on former Red Pepper journalist, Tom Kalumula. Kalumula fell victim to a house invasion in Nakanyonyi, Jinja Northern division, where he was robbed of his belongings, including mobile phones and money.

The arrest of these five notorious individuals is a significant breakthrough for the police, who have been diligently working to ensure peace and security in Jinja. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi, recently visited the Kiira region to discuss strategies with security chiefs and Resident Commissioners, aiming to restore tranquility in the area.

According to Mubi, the suspects have confessed to their involvement in multiple attacks across Bugembe, Wanyange, Mafubira, Buwekula, and Budhumbuli. While the police have made progress in apprehending criminal gangs, they remain committed to tracking down other wrongdoers. Mubi urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to further assist in curbing crime.

Jinja’s Northern division has been grappling with rising insecurity, prompting concerns from residents and leaders alike. While numerous arrests have been made, criminal gangs persist in conducting robberies under the cover of darkness.

As the police continue their relentless pursuit of criminals, the citizens of Jinja can find solace in the fact that the city’s security forces are determined to make the region a safer place for everyone.
