Ceylon Lions cricket club kicked off their season with a resounding nine-wicket victory over Tornado Bee at Lugogo Cricket Oval, showcasing a dominant performance in their opening match. Led by standout bowler Siraje Nsubuga, who claimed an impressive 6 wickets for just 20 runs, the Lions restricted Tornado Bee to a mere 78 runs in 27 overs.
With Martin Ondeko and Brighton Muganzi delivering solid performances with the bat, knocking off the required runs in just 14 overs, the Lions secured a convincing win. This strong start bodes well for the Kamengo-based team as they aim to clinch the coveted trophy, especially with defending champions Damani no longer in the league.
Meanwhile, Wanderers faced a tough challenge against Nyakasura but fell short, despite notable contributions from new recruits Suleiman Sharif, Mohammad Shaaf, Geoffrey Kakaire, and Timothy Kawanguzi. Despite setting a target of 148 runs, Wanderers couldn’t contain Nyakasura’s determined chase, ultimately suffering a two-wicket defeat.
In Division 2 action, Avengers emerged victorious in a double-header match at Budo, thanks to the stellar performance of Christopher Kidega. Kidega’s batting prowess proved crucial in both run chases, securing maximum points for Avengers as they aim for a swift return to the top flight after last season’s relegation.
