In a riveting encounter at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru, Busoga United FC ushered in the New Year with a spectacular 2-1 triumph over second-placed Kitara FC in the Uganda Premier League.

The game saw a brilliant start for Busoga United FC as they took the lead in the 14th minute through a well-executed move. Jeremy Matata, capitalizing on a defense-splitting pass from Ibrahim Kayiwa and an assist from Emmanuel Ajo, found the back of the net from close range.

Kitara FC, however, showed resilience, and substitute Paul Mucureezi leveled the scores in the second half with a well-taken penalty after captain Isaac Isinde was penalized for a handball.

The euphoria of Kitara’s equalizer was short-lived as Busoga United FC quickly reestablished their lead. In a dazzling display, Emmanuel Ajo dribbled past his defender and unleashed a powerful shot into the top right corner, leaving goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima helpless.

The victory marked a significant turnaround for Busoga United FC, who had endured a five-game winless streak since their last triumph against KCCA FC in November.

With this result, Busoga United FC climbed to 12th position on the table with 15 points, pulling themselves out of the relegation zone. On the other hand, Kitara FC maintains their second position with 26 points, albeit trailing leaders BUL FC by six points.

Busoga United FC will carry the momentum into their next game against Vipers SC on Sunday, while Kitara FC will look to bounce back when they host Soltilo Bright Stars FC in their final first-round fixture on Friday.
