The youths from the Busoga Kingdom Youth Council (BKYC) are determined that education can potentially aid in the fight against challenges facing the Busoga sub-region. They were preaching the gospel of education in Mayuge district on Saturday, May 4, 2024, during a graduation ceremony at Lugolole village in Baitambogwe subcounty.

David Mugabi, who serves as the General Secretary for BKYC, was celebrating his important milestone of attaining a degree in education from Busitema University. The Thanksgiving ceremony underscored the importance of education in eliminating ignorance among individuals.

Several educationists, parents, students, and political and religious leaders, among other individuals who were presented, consumed the education preaches from the youthful BKYC members who represent youths from different chiefdoms to the Kingdom.

Owekitibwa Hanifah Namugosa, the BKYC vice chairperson, elaborated the objectives of the group, which aims to mobilize peers for common and constructive initiatives that transform a youth. She says they must implement Kyabazinga’s regular calls of going to school for knowledge.

The king of Busoga Kingdom, His Majesty William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV, has since emphasised the relevance of combating diseases, poverty, and ignorance, as the notable issues that affect the region.

“We are here today to witness the results of the preaches of “Baba Kyabazinga.” He always encourages us (youths) to go to school, and our brother [David Mugabi] has gone to school. We are sure that the King’s efforts will never yield nothing,” said Namugosa while addressing a congregation.

Namugosa encouraged parents to remain at the forefront of the education of the young one and rallied the youth to utilize the limited resources available to attain the knowledge from class as the era mostly recognises an educated person.

“I want to inform you that this is for not only Mugabi but it’s for all of us. Mugabi’s education is going to benefit this community and the entire world. I encourage you [youths] here that we can also do the same to be productive to our communities and parents,” she said.

Mr. Imran Benjamin Kula, who undertakes the General Duties role and represents Bulamogi chiefdom in BKYC, underlined the relevance of togetherness, a crucial factor of development among the young people.

“We only need to come together as the youths. We shouldn’t segregate and separate from each other because of some differences. We are all Basoga and sons of His Royal Highness, the Kyabazinga. Therefore, during and after education, we need to unite for a common development as youths,” said Mr Kula.

Among other BKYC members who graced the function are Joseph Sooka, Andrew Bogere, Fred Wakibi, Habibah Nakisige, Ivan Musiba, Nasifu Aligaba, and Salim Hussein Magumba among others.

Ms Ritah Nakaiza Martha hopeful woman member of Parliament for Mayuge district on the National Unity Platform flag expressed pleasure for the education of a boy child whom she says he (boy child) is always left out from Empowerment initiatives.

Nakaiza said civil organisations and government agencies only benefit the females, and the boys independently struggle to go through, which she advocated for gender balances.

“I am happy that a boy child is graduating today. We (parents) concentrate on the girl child leaving the boys to suffer. But we as NUP, we envisions to cater for both parties as they all live in the same community,” said Ms Nakaiza.

She praised the youthful Kyabazinga for emphasising the importance of education among the youth and called on parents to remain focused on educating the young generation.

David Mugabi, besides serving the Kingdom through BKYC, he is a teacher at Central College Kamuli in Kamuli district. He is also the founder of Nhife Initiative, a community based organisation empowering and mobilising children to embrace education.
