BUL Football Club missed an opportunity to claim the top spot in the Uganda Premier League table as they fell short in a 1-0 defeat against struggling UPDF on Tuesday.
Hussein Zzinda emerged as the hero for UPDF, netting the decisive goal in the 72nd minute of the match. The hosts faced frustration as they struggled to break through UPDF’s defense, with their woes compounded by striker Gerald Ogweti’s sending off later in the game.
Zzinda’s goal came from a well-executed header, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up between Tom Ikara and a BUL defender, ultimately finding the back of the net to secure victory for UPDF.
Adding to BUL’s woes, Ogweti received a red card just seven minutes later, further disrupting their rhythm and flow in the match.
The defeat sees UPDF, now with 16 points from 20 games, climb to 14th position in the league standings, edging past Busoga United on goal difference. It also marks their first double over BUL since 2017, highlighting their resurgence in form.
Meanwhile, BUL remains in second place with 39 points, trailing behind table-toppers Kitara by just one point, with both teams having played 20 games thus far.
Looking ahead, BUL faces title rivals SC Villa in their next fixture on Friday, while UPDF will return to action on April 5 in an away clash against champions Vipers SC.
