BUL FC demonstrated exceptional resilience as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Express FC, despite finishing the game with only nine players on the pitch. The encounter, filled with drama and controversies, unfolded at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
The match kicked off under challenging weather conditions, with a thirty-minute delay due to heavy rainfall in Kampala. BUL took control early on, with Nicholas Mweere’s seventh-minute free-kick finding the back of the net, eluding Express goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.
The hosts, however, leveled the score in the seventh minute of added time in the first half through a contentious penalty. Isaac Wagoina successfully converted the spot-kick, awarded after Mweere’s challenge on Emmanuel Wasswa, a decision surrounded by controversy as replays suggested a different scenario.
The second half intensified in physicality and saw BUL facing adversity with two players receiving red cards. Benon Tahomera was sent off for retaliation, and Walter Ochora received his second booking for a foul, leaving BUL with only nine men on the field. In the midst of this, assistant coach Simeon Masaba was also ejected for protesting the referee’s decision.
Despite being at a numerical disadvantage, BUL showcased remarkable defensive prowess, thwarting Express’s attempts to capitalize on their extra players. The hosts failed to find the composure needed to secure a victory, with Marvin Oshaba missing a crucial opportunity.
The final whistle blew, sealing a hard-fought 1-1 draw for BUL FC, who maintained their position at the top of the table with 25 points. Express FC, on the other hand, sits in seventh place with 13 points.
