It’s been a challenging week for Uganda Premier League leaders BUL FC, as they added another draw to their recent results, leaving the title race wide open.
After suffering a 2-1 defeat against Gaddafi FC on Wednesday, BUL FC managed only a one-all draw against Mbarara City FC on Saturday at their home ground, the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Gerald Ogweti provided an early lead for the Oil Manufacturers, but Joseph Akandanwaho equalized, denying BUL FC the victory they sought.
The draw marks the end of the first round for BUL FC, and it’s not the conclusion they had envisioned, as their lead at the top has now been reduced to just four points. With 33 points in 15 matches, having scored 23 goals and conceded 12, BUL FC faces a more competitive second round, set to kick off in February.
Kitara FC, securing a 3-1 victory against Soltilo Bright Stars FC on Friday, stands second with 29 points, while reigning champions Vipers SC are fourth with 27 points. Vipers SC has an opportunity to close the gap to just three points when they face Busoga United on Sunday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Mbarara City occupies the 11th position on the 16-team log with 17 points out of a possible 45.
As BUL FC prepares for the second round with a clash against KCCA FC, Mbarara City will host Express FC on February 9.
The draw against Mbarara City has intensified the title race, leaving BUL FC with a narrow lead that could further diminish if Vipers SC secures a victory in their upcoming match. The battle for the Uganda Premier League title is set to intensify as the competition enters the decisive second round.
