In an intense match at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL secured a dramatic victory over KCCA to advance to the semi-finals of the prestigious Stanbic Uganda Cup. Despite a one-all draw after regulation time and extra time, BUL held their nerves in a tense penalty shootout, to grab a 6-5 victory over their opponents.
The match kicked off with an early goal from Alex Kitata of BUL, who broke the deadlock within the first ten minutes of play. However, KCCA quickly responded, with Etienne Katenga finding the back of the net just five minutes later to level the score at one-all.
Throughout the full 90 minutes, both teams fought valiantly, but neither could find the decisive goal, leading to extra time. Despite the additional 30 minutes of play, the score remained unchanged.
In the dramatic spot kicks that followed, BUL showcased composure and precision, with Ibrahim Kazindula, Ibrahim Mugulusi, Joel Mutakubwa, Ronald Otti, Walter Ochora, and Pascal Ngobi all converting their penalties. Despite a missed attempt from Joram Kiirya, BUL held their nerve to secure the victory.
While KCCA also displayed resilience, with Musitafa Mujuzi, Musitafa Kizza, Joel Sserunjogi, Filbert Obenchan, and Emmanuel Loki all finding the target, missed penalties from Herbert Achai and Peter Magambo ultimately cost them the match.
With this hard-fought win, BUL joins Pajule Lions and NEC in the semi-finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. Pajule Lions secured their spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over Pakwach Young Stars, while NEC emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Police.
The final semi-finalist will be determined in the upcoming quarter-final fixture, where defending champions Vipers will face off against Kitara.
