Brian Masaba, has decided to step down as captain shortly after the team returned from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The 32-year-old made his heartfelt announcement during a Team-Media Luncheon at Roza Dymz in Lugogo, revealing that this decision has been weighing on him for some time.
“It’s a huge honor for me to have led my country and my teammates, not just at the World Cup but over the past five years,” Masaba expressed emotionally to the gathered media. “I’ve grown tremendously as a person through the lessons of leadership and sacrifice.”
In a special tribute, Masaba acknowledged Samuel Walusimbi, one of Uganda’s esteemed players, for believing in him from the start of his career. “Mr. Sam (Walusimbi), seated here, gave me my first opportunity to captain a side at U19 level,” he recounted gratefully.
Masaba took over the captaincy in 2018 from Davis Karashani. His tenure is notably marked by Uganda’s historic qualification for their first ever World Cup appearance.
