Jinja: A yet to be identified housemaid is stranded at Kakira central police station after an unknown bodaboda rider reportedly raped her and even took off with her belongings including money to a tune of ten thousand shillings.
The incident happened in the sugarcane plantations in Lwabogo in Jinja district when the motorculist allegedly lured the house-girl who was on her way to her home village in Buyende district.
It is said that the 21-year-old maid reached in Jinja at 1 am on March 28, 2024, after boarding Golgon bus from Wakiso, where she had been working without being paid since January.
A born of Igwaya village in Kagulu sub county Buyende district, the victim resorted to going back to village after spending three months at one Aisha’s home in Maya parish, Nsangi sub county, Wakiso who paid her only shs30,000.
Goglon bus belonging to Goglon Transporters Limited after reaching Jinja city couldn’t proceed to Kamuli town, prompting the maid to board a boda boda enroute to Kamuli town at twenty thousand shillings.
The “clever” motorcyclist, according to the victim, rode in a Zig zag manner and ended up in the sugar canes plantations in Lwabogo in Jinja district.
The duo spent the night in the sugarcane plantation where the determined rider reportedly raped the passenger.
She reported to Kakira central police station that after repeatedly raping her, the bodaboda-man robbed her all her money to a tune of ten thousand shillings, lipstick and a chapati of five hundred shillings.
The Kiira region police spokesperson, SP James Mubi, told this publication that cases of rape and armed robbery were registered at Kakira CPS as the suspect purportedly threatened her with a stone.
“The boda boda rider allegedly and repeatedly raped the victim robbed her all her money to a tune of ten thousand shillings, lipstick and a chapati of five hundred shillings. Police have intensified a search for the suspect, and he will be brought to book,” Mubi said on Thursday.
Police contacted the mother of the victim, who said she doesn’t have any funds to transport her daughter back home. She instead encouraged her to trek to Buyende district, which police call for good Samaritans to rescue the young woman.
“Her mother said she doesn’t transport money and only said let the lady foot to Buyende. We call upon good Samaritans to come to the rescue of the victim,” Mubi rallied for a contribution towards the safe journey of the stranded girl.
According to Mubi, prosecution guided investigations are underway to establish the home of Asha in Nsangi Wakiso district and the bus in question.
“We are searching for the suspect and motorcycle used in this incident and among other inquiries. CCTV cameras will also aid in the investigations,” he added, revealing that the scene of crime has been visited and revisited with the technical team on board.
