After a year of silence, Batball Uganda has officially announced its return through an exciting four-year partnership with the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA). This partnership aims to revive the Batball program and boost youth cricket development across Uganda.
In a statement, Batball outlined its plans for this partnership. They will work under UCA’s Schools Development Program to organize underage cricket tournaments, focusing on identifying and nurturing young talent. Beyond player development, Batball also aims to commercialize youth cricket, attract sponsors, and increase the visibility of the sport, making a bigger impact across Uganda.
Batball has already laid the foundation for this initiative with two key tournaments. The Batball Open 2022/23 season kicked off in December 2022 to April 2023 across 5 regions of Uganda, followed by Batball X in August 2023, held across two cities.
With the agreement in place, both organizations will collaborate to host three major events each year: Batball Open, Batball X, and Batball Maxx. These competitions will give young players the chance to improve their skills and compete at higher levels.
They are set to resume with a bang, starting with Batball Maxx, which will be staged in mid-December 2024 to complete their first season of events. The tournament will feature four teams that will include four players per team from the Batball youth ecosystem, as part of the playing eleven and with lots of fun.
