JINJA: Works at the Jinja based Abyssinia iron and steel factory paralysed on Saturday night when security grappled with suspected thugs who allegedly broke into the factory to steal the company’s scrap. Fours suspects were reportedly got red-handed steeling the metallic items.
Police confirmed that during the shuffle, one suspect was put out of action by the factory’s security guard while one suspect was arrested. The two suspects purportedly took off after gunfire shots from the security guard.
The factory premises are guarded by the Priority One Security Group, a local security company in Jinja.
“The suspects are residents of Danida in Walukuba – Masese, Jinja City. They were caught red-handed steeling scrap belonging to Abyssinia iron and steel Jinja branch,” confirmed SP James Mubi the spokesperson of Kiira regional police.
Mubi stated that the negative incident transpired on April 20, 2024, at around 9pm when gun shots caused an emergency in the area.The deceased suspect was only identified as Reagan, while John Buwale, a 24-year-old was apprehended.
“Exhibits of scrap have been recovered, and the search for the two suspects at large is ongoing,” said Mubi.
Police have embarked on the prosecution guided investigations to establish the genesis of the incident. Mubi noted that the deceased’s body was conveyed to Jinja main hospital mortuary.
