Jinja: Shockwaves reverberate through the residents of Muwangi Bulumba village in Buwenge subcounty, Jinja district, following the arrest of a 45-year-old man, Sefatia Kilegeya, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl. The disturbing incident, which occurred on August 21, 2023, has left the community grappling with outrage and concern for the safety of their children.

Reports suggest that Kilegeya, a neighbor of the victim, reportedly lured the young girl into his rented house and forcefully subjected her to inappropriate activities. The accused is said to have silenced the girl by holding her mouth and issuing threats of harm, preventing her from raising an alarm during or after the disturbing ordeal. Prior to the alleged incident, the two shared a seemingly innocuous moment by preparing a meal of silver fish and posho together.

The shocking revelations emerged when the police intervened and apprehended Kilegeya, who is currently detained at Buwenge Central Police Station (CPS) in Jinja district. He is now facing charges of aggravated defilement, and investigations are ongoing, as confirmed by SP James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson.

In response to such incidents, the Kiira Regional Police Command has pledged a commitment to intensify efforts against sexual offenders. Recently, Joshua Wandegeya, a primary school teacher at White Rose Junior School in Mafubira, was arrested and remanded on charges of allegedly defiling a 6-year-old pupil. Additionally, Siraj Wanzala, a traditional healer, was apprehended following allegations of rape involving a patient within his shrine at Kainogoga in Jinja city.

Authorities are calling on parents and guardians to be vigilant, emphasizing the importance of monitoring their children’s movements both during school terms and holidays. They urge close supervision of children’s phone conversations as well. In light of recent incidents, the community is advised to exercise caution when entrusting children to relatives and friends, ensuring they maintain the highest standards of integrity.
