Makerere University Journalism students have welcomed the Publication of Busoga Today newspaper.

The students under their Umbrella Makerere University Journalism and Communications Students’ Association (MUJCA), said the newspaper will offer them a platform to practice their electronic, print and digital media skills.

“I believe it is an opportunity for the students doing Journalism and Communications to write stories in Lusoga and English,” said Sandra Ayikoru, a second year Journalism student.

The newly sworn-in President of MUJCA, Kevin Mugabi, said Makerere University is happy to receive Busoga Today newspaper, adding that it will benefit students at the Ivory Tower.

“l believe the newspaper will penetrate across the River Nile and stage at Makerere University to cover stories about students welfare, leadership and academic progress,” Mugabi said as he urged fellow students to embrace the newspaper.

“If we embrace and own it in our hearts, it will provide employment and placement for us as Journalism students,” Mugabi said.

Mugabi was speaking shortly after being sworn-in as the new MUJCA president.

The event was attended by Busoga Today Chief Executive Officer Isaac Imaka as well as MUJCA patron Dr Ivan Lukanda.

In his address, Imaka urged students to remain focused on what they are aspiring to become.

“Decide on what you want to be and focus on being innovative. You should be ready to learn. Also know how to write if you want to survive in the public relations field,” Imaka said as he advised students yearning for the communications field.
