The Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Tuesday deactivated his Twitter account after learning that it was being sabotaged by wrong elements.

This website has learnt that Gen Kainerugaba realized that some “external forces” were behind the hacking into his account that had reached over 540,000 followers.

“The account has been growing by about 2000 followers per week, but then this started dropping rapidly,” a source close to Gen Kainerugaba told this website.

“He believes someone is behind this and he decided to take the account down for now,” the source added.

Before pulling down the account, Gen Kainerugaba alluded to the sabotage, claiming that Big Tech was suppressing the voice of reason.

The development caught many of his followers by surprise, with some claiming that Twitter had taken down his account. But this was denied by the sources close to the General.

Over the last three years, Lt Gen Muhoozi, who is also a son of President Museveni, has become increasingly active on Twitter and since 2020, his posts (or tweets, as they are known on Twitter), have become more and more colourful.

In many instances, they have also been controversial, as Muhoozi touched on matters of State, Uganda’s position on regional conflicts, and the army that ordinarily would land any other military officer in trouble.

For instance, last month, the 47-year-old First Son made a somewhat shocking revelation, disclosing that he has retired from the national army after over two decades of service- flaring debate on rumoured presidential ambitions.

“After 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world, I am happy to announce my retirement,” he tweeted.

The tweet came at a time when Gen Kainerugaba had een engaging shuttle diplomacy with Uganda’s south-west neighbour, Rwanda. The First Son also twice held talks with Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta.
