Uganda’s agriculture sector, recognized as the backbone of the nation’s economy, has taken center stage at the 29th Agriculture Show, aiming to drive Agro-industrialization and foster economic growth. Organized by the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, this annual event brings together agro-entrepreneurs, experts, and innovators to showcase modern farming techniques and propel the country’s agro-business sector forward.

Under the theme “Fostering Resilient Agricultural Value Chains to Drive Agro-Industrialization,” the 10-day show at the Source of Nile showground in Jinja City features a diverse range of activities. The event, with an entry fee of shs5,000, is expected to be officially opened by President Yoweri Museveni, further highlighting its significance and commitment to agricultural development.

The agriculture show serves as an opportunity to educate local farmers on new technologies and innovations, empowering them to maximize their yields and overall productivity. Grace Kauni, the deputy Executive Director of UNFFE, encourages farmers from all corners of the country to participate, emphasizing the wealth of knowledge and information available for them to learn and share.

Throughout the event, local and foreign agro-companies have set up stalls to exhibit their products, ranging from inputs to outputs. This presents an ideal platform for farmers to gain insights into modern farming methods and access quality agricultural products. Janet Ojambo, the sales manager of Top Seeds Uganda Limited, stresses the importance of educating farmers on the right seeds and their proper storage to avoid losses and ensure successful germination.

Nelson Tukundane, the UNFFE publicist, underscores the vast potential for agricultural products in the East African market, providing farmers with lucrative opportunities for growth. He highlights the crucial role of value addition in enhancing marketing strategies and aims to equip farmers with knowledge on both production and effective marketing techniques.
