The Victoria Pearls are set to return to international action as they host the Women’s Day Cup from March 7th to 16th at Lakeside Oval in Entebbe. The tournament will feature Namibia, Nepal, and Hong Kong in a T20 format, giving Uganda a valuable opportunity to test their squad ahead of a big year.

This series carries high stakes as it has been granted T20I status, meaning Uganda will earn ranking points. The Victoria Pearls will aim to gain points by defeating lower-ranked Nepal and Hong Kong while challenging higher-ranked Namibia for a crucial boost.

A key storyline heading into the tournament is the rise of 17-year-old fast bowler Irene Mutoni. The young star, who made a name for herself in Uganda’s U19 team, has been selected for her senior debut. Her outstanding performances in youth tournaments, including an MVP award in Division 2 has made her a player to watch.

Mutoni replaces experienced Evelyn Anyipo in the squad, joining a strong team led by captain Janet Mbabazi.

Full squad: Janet Mbabazi (C), 2. Consy Aweko, 3. Kevin Awino, 4. Immaculate Nakisuyi, 5. Stephanie Nampiina, 6. Rita Musamali, 7. Sarah Akiteng, 8. Phiona Khulume, 9. Malisa Ariokot, 10. Irene Mutoni, 11. Patricia Malemikia, 12. Proscovia Alako, 13. Sarah Walaza, 14. Esther Iloku.
