A shocking scandal involving forgery, fraud, and family exploitation threatens to tarnish the legacy of renowned businessman Haj Majid Mohammed Bagalaaliwo.
Widely respected as a seasoned entrepreneur, Haj Bagalaaliwo is best known as the founder and chairman of Century Bottling Company (now Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda Limited), and as a former stakeholder in the defunct Greenland Bank Limited, First Insurance Company Limited, FIBA Coffee Uganda, and Inter-Continental Investments Uganda Limited. He also holds the distinguished title of founding patron of House of Zakat and Waqf Uganda.
Today, his vast empire and personal legacy are engulfed in a bitter family dispute that has raised serious questions about ethics, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable family members.
Medical documents reveal that Haj Bagalaaliwo fell into a deep coma in February 2023 and was admitted to Kampala Hospital, leaving his health in a critical state and his estate exposed.
Shockingly, in April 2023—just two months after his incapacitation—documents bearing a forged version of his signature were allegedly used to register the controversial Bagalaaliwo Foundation.
Critics claim the foundation was created with the sole intent of misappropriating key family assets, including property belonging to the late matriarch Hajat Mulasi Nakakawa, a lucrative commercial building on Iganga Main Street, and a community health center built in memory of his late mother.
Further allegations suggest that the foundation is also being used to take over a community primary and secondary school in Iganga’s Bunyiiro area.
