Kamuli: A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kamuli district as territorial police apprehended Stephen Omoit, a local security guard affiliated with the private Marvel security company, for allegedly shooting a 28-year-old bodaboda rider. The victim, Junior Muzafaru, hails from Namulikya village, Nawanyago town council in Kamuli district.

According to reports, Omoit was escorting an Indian staff member from GM Sugar Company, identified only as Patel, who was on a mission to collect undisclosed sums of money from Luzinga Sugar Factory. Both were riding a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UFP 516E, en route to Nawantale Weigh Bridge in Kisozi town council.

ASP Micheal Kasadha, the Busoga North region police spokesperson, disclosed that the security guard, under suspicious circumstances, opened fire on Muzafaru, who was allegedly following closely behind them.

“The security guard discharged a gunshot upon reaching Nawanyago, leaving Muzafaru with a gunshot wound to the jaw. We are yet to determine the motive behind the shooting,” Kasadha stated.

Upon receiving reports of the distressing incident, Kisozi Police took action. The Station Officer in Charge, accompanied by other detectives, visited the crime scene and discovered a firearm with serial number A65883. Kasadha confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody at Kamuli Central Police Station, with ongoing investigations.

Muzafaru, suffering from a severe gunshot wound, was initially rushed to Nawanyago Health Center III. However, his condition proved too critical for the local facility to handle, prompting his transfer to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in Jinja city for more advanced medical treatment.
