In a troubling development, three esteemed radio presenters in Jinja, Uganda, have come forward with alarming reports of receiving death threats, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities. The targeted individuals include popular comedian Hussein Muyonjo, better known as Swengere, alongside Hassan Muwanga and Rogers Mbajjwe, prominent voices on local airwaves.

Swengere, who entertains listeners on the airwaves of 87.7 Baba FM, disclosed that the threats originated from an unidentified individual who chose to communicate via telephone. The gravity of the situation escalated when the menacing messages extended beyond Swengere to also encompass Muwanga and Mbajjwe, both associated with Busoga One FM, renowned for their show “Ebyekusifu,” which delves into current affairs.

The threats, delivered through phone calls and text messages, painted a harrowing picture for the recipients. Swengere shared a chilling screenshot of a text message purporting to come from the alleged perpetrator, who identified themselves as a Special Forces Commando. The ominous message claimed to possess both the means and intent to harm Swengere, Muwanga, and Mbajjwe, indicating a staggering 120 rounds of ammunition earmarked for the trio and their families.

Adding a layer of complexity to the situation is the political dimension, as all three individuals are affiliated with the National Unity Platform (NUP) and harbor aspirations for elective positions. Swengere has set his sights on representing Jinja North constituency, while Muwanga and Mbajjwe are eyeing seats in Njeru municipality, Buikwe district.

Concerned for their safety and undeterred in their pursuit of justice, the trio wasted no time in reporting the threats to the authorities. A formal complaint was lodged at Jinja Central Police Station, marked by a press briefing where the presenters shared their apprehensions and called for swift action.

In response, the Kiira region police spokesperson, SP James Mubi, assured the public of a thorough investigation. He emphasized the gravity of the matter and pledged the police force’s commitment to identifying and apprehending the culprits behind the threats. Mubi reiterated the importance of personal security and urged all political aspirants to conduct themselves responsibly, refraining from actions that could incite violence or endanger lives.
