JINJA: Aisha Namugaya has been voted new Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) guild president replacing Emmanuel Erabu who has been at the helm of the students’ leadership for the last one year.

Namugaya garnered 136 votes beating her closest challenger, Hessein Kisekka, by a mere two votes. Kisekka garnered 134 votes while  Phionah Nakke trailed with 60 votes.

“I thank the students for entrusting me with the guild leadership. I pledge to serve everyone, including those who have voted for my opponent with dedication,” ab excited Namugaya said.

    Namugaya celebrates with her supporters.

The students also voted for the guild speaker where Ali Nasser Kasolo emerged victor with 157 votes beating Charles Oboli who garnered 97 votes while Zion Nyakato walked away with 65 votes.

While declaring the results at the institute’s tally centre on Thursday afternoon, the institute electoral commission chairperson, Frederick Kalega, said the result reflect the actual choice of the students and commended the UHTTI Management for facilitating the process.

“The students have spoken and we thank everybody who participated in the process and management for allowing students to exercise their democratic mandate,” Kalega said.

He appealed to both the victors and those defeated to put the differences aside and work together for the good of the students’ fraternity and the institute as a whole.
