Jackson Twijukye popularly known as Kanyankole, a 27-year-old resident of Bugembe – Budhumbuli in Jinja city has committed suicide after allegations that his girlfriend fell in love with another man.

Kyanyankole was on Sunday found hanging in his rented room at Budhumbuli after informing his neighbors that he would instead kill himself than competing for a relationship with a traditional herbalist.

The deceased who is a born of Isingiro district attended the 38th NRM Liberation Day held at St. John SSS Wakitaka playgrounds in Jinja city on January 26, 2024 which in his return made the history by destroying his life.

“When Kanyankole came back he reportedly told his neighbors that he is going to commit suicide but the neighbors took it lightly,” police confirmed.

Kanyankole was a businessman dealing in Matooke, working at Bugembe central market, which his colleagues got concerned as he didn’t report at work since Friday January 26.

According to police, the workmates after developing concerned, went to check on him at his place only to find a closed door, they opened and saw Kanyankole hanging on a new rope in his house and notified the area LC1 chairperson who alerted police.

“Police has responded and critically observed no signs of struggle marks on his body or in the house,” said James Mubi the Kiira region police spokesperson, adding that exhibits of new rope and blood stains were retrieved at the scene to help ascertain what exactly happened.

Reports indicate that, the deceased whose body was taken to Jinja main hospital mortuary, has been living a single life though with a yet to be identified girlfriend who was allegedly cheating on him with a traditional herbalist yet to be identified.

On January 27, Fred Mitega 51 committed suicide in the sugarcane plantations around his home in Buleba cell, Buwagi ward Jinja northern division Jinja city following allegations levelled against self proclaimed pastor Mutume James Muwanguzi for having extramarital affair with his (Mitega) wife.

Before hanging himself, Mitega was accused of hacking his Zaina Nakisige, 40, to death using an axe leading to the arrest of Pastor James Muwanguzi who was accused of falling in love with Mitega’s wife.

Mubi noted that Pastor Muwanguzi was charged with causing domestic violence, an offense under the Domestic Violence Act.

Police appeals to the clergymen, cultural leaders, parents and media among others to participate in counseling married couples and other lovers to curb the growing incidents of domestic disputes leading to loss of lives.

Mubi encouraged married individuals to utilize the police offices of child and family protection unit (CFPU) and other professional marriage counselors for lovers to refrain from ending their lives.
