Jinja – A tragic incident has struck Jinja District, Uganda, where 35-year-old Kajiiko Isifu, a boda-boda rider from Kalebera Village, Buwenge Sub-county, is suspected to have drowned in a nearby swamp.

Kajiiko was last seen near Nagawoloma Swamp—located between Kalebera and Kibundaire villages—around midday on April 12. Four days later, on April 16, a resident discovered his decomposing body while gardening, prompting the chairperson of Kibundaire Village to alert police at Buwenge Police Station.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Kajiiko may have drowned. “His body has been taken to Buwenge HCIV mortuary for a postmortem examination,” confirmed SP James Mubi, the Kiira Regional Police spokesperson, on Thursday.

Police have urged the public to exercise caution around water bodies and to avoid swimming alone, particularly in swampy or unclean areas. The incident has left family and friends in shock, mourning the loss of a respected community member who had been in the boda-boda business for years.

Boda-boda riders in Uganda frequently face risks ranging from road accidents to targeted crimes, including murder and robbery. In response, the police have intensified crackdowns on boda-boda theft rings and continue to caution riders about ongoing threats.

In a bid to improve safety and emergency response, the police have also announced plans to offer free training to local village lifeguards.
