Uganda Cricket Association has ushered in a new leadership team following elections held during the Annual General Meeting at Kati Kati Restaurant on Saturday. The event, which brought together representatives from eight cricket clubs, marked a significant transition in the administration of the sport.

Jackson Kavuma, who has been serving as the Honorary Secretary, emerged as the new chairman after defeating Tornado’s Fred Lutaya in a closely contested vote.  Out of the 16 votes cast, Kavuma secured 10, earning him the top position in Uganda’s cricket governing body. He takes over from Michael Nuwagaba, who has served as the chairman for the past four years.

Speaking after his election, Kavuma emphasized the urgent need to amend the UCA Constitution in line with the new Sports Act. He acknowledged the challenges highlighted in the audited reports and committed to addressing governance and structural issues within the association. He expressed confidence that the constitutional amendments would be completed within two months to ensure full compliance with the new regulations.

The elections also saw other key positions filled. Wanderers’ Denis Musali, previously the UCA Communications Manager, was elected Honorary Secretary after a dominant win over Tornado B’s Jeremy Kibuuka Musoke. Musali secured 11 votes, reinforcing his position as a trusted figure within the association. Additionally, Lilian Namaganda was elected as the Women’s Representative unopposed, further strengthening the leadership team.
