Kamuli: A disturbing report from Kamuli district indicates the arrest of Mr Mohammed Jingo, a 43-year-old businessman, for reportedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Jingo who resides in Mbulamuti Cell, Mbulamuti ward in Mbulamuti Town Council, Kamuli district, Jengo is said to have seduced the minor, who is a P.5 learner at Busota Primary School.

Busoga North regional police through the spokesperson ASP Micheal Kasadha, confirmed the unlawful act on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Preliminary investigations suggest that the mother to the victim relocated with her to Mbulamuti recently.

Kasadha said that the young girl has been owning a telephone bought by her mother for communication given her busy schedules at work. Unfortunately, the girl was similarly using the same phone to design programmes with old man.

“Due to her busy schedule in Kampala, she got her daughter a phone for easy communication. Together with friends, the victim has been going to Jingo’s place to buy charcoal. He therefore he took advantage of the situation to get the contact of the victim after several failed attempts,” Kasadha said.

Kasadha added that upon getting the contact, Jingo allegedly embarked on luring her at night with promises of money of which he succeeded. By the time of arrest, they had allegedly made three sexual encounters.

It is alleged that the mother developed suspicions on Friday, June 1, 2024, at night when Jingo made a phone call to the victim. This prompted her to report the matter at the Mbulamuti police post the following day.

However, when she returned home, she found when the daughter was missing and upon searching, she was helped by the victim’s peer to establish her whereabouts.

“Having had knowledge about the sexual relationship between Jingo and the victim, she led the mother to Jingo’s place where the juvenile was found leading to the immediate arrest of Jingo,” said Kasadha.

The officer told the media that the victim and suspect were examined pending further investigations.

Police appeal to parents to take all necessary steps to safeguard children against similar situations that endanger their lives, especially when they avail them with communication gadgets.
