Jinja: Police in the Kiira region are holding Mr. Francis Wandera, a landlord in Jinja City, who is accused of allegedly abusing his tenants’ young daughters. The 40-year-old man is accused of defiling the two minors on multiple occasions.

The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, are aged five and two years.

Police’s preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect committed the alleged offenses during October and November of 2024.

“He faces two counts of aggravated defilement,” SP James Mubi, the spokesperson for Kiira regional police, told Busoga Today on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports suggest that Mr. Wandera used to buy jolly jus and chapati to lure the children, particularly when their parents were absent.

He was arrested on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, and detained at Jinja Central Police Station (CPS). He was apprehended at a location that has not yet been disclosed.

“We have information that this suspect used to buy jolly jus and chapati to entice these young girls,” Mubi added.

The incident came to light when the victims confided in their mother, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.

Mubi said that investigations are ongoing, with the prosecution guiding the process. He also confirmed that medical examinations were carried out on both the victims and the suspect.

“The victims have been medically examined, and the suspect has been examined and is of sound mind,” he noted.

Police have declined to disclose the identities of the victims’ parents or the exact location where the offenses took place. “The particulars of the parents are being protected,” Mubi said.

He also assured the public that the Kiira regional police command, led by SSP Charles Nsaba, is committed to apprehending those involved in sexual assault cases impartially.

“It is the obligation of every citizen to promote and protect the welfare and safety of children,” Mubi emphasized.
