Kamuli: A tragic incident has occurred in Kamuli district, where a fisherman lost his life in a shooting incident at Kyamatende landing site. The local police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has left the community in shock and mourning.

The victim has been identified as Jackson Lutaaya, a 30-year-old resident of Nabitalo B in Kibuye Parish, Kagumba subcounty, Kamuli district. Lutaaya held the position of vice chairman in the Nabitalo Beach Management Unit (BMU), showcasing his dedication to the fishing community.

According to preliminary findings by the police, Lutaaya and five other members were engaged in an operation against illegal fishing at the time of the incident. Tragically, it was during this operation that Lutaaya was allegedly shot dead by a local farm guard, whose identity remains unknown.

Reports suggest that the suspected illegal fishermen spotted the boat carrying Lutaaya and his team, causing them to raise an alarm, claiming they were under attack by robbers. This alert caught the attention of local farm guards, who responded by opening fire, resulting in the untimely death of Lutaaya at the scene.

In response to this tragic incident, detectives from Kamuli Central Police Station have been swiftly deployed to investigate the matter thoroughly. The police authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind the shooting and bringing those responsible to justice.

The loss of Jackson Lutaaya has deeply impacted the fishing community in Kamuli. Residents are mourning the untimely death of a dedicated fisherman and active member of the Nabitalo BMU. The authorities and community leaders are providing support to the bereaved family and urging calm as the investigation progresses.
