A shocking incident has gripped the community of Budondo in Jinja city as Fred Mitega, a 51-year-old resident, stands accused of brutally murdering his wife, Zaina Nakisige, allegedly over suspicions of infidelity with a local pastor. The tragic event, which unfolded on January 27, 2024, has sparked outrage and intensified police efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.

According to police reports, the fatal altercation occurred around midnight, resulting in Nakisige’s untimely death at the hands of her husband. Mitega purportedly used an axe to fatally strike his wife’s head following heated accusations of her involvement in an extramarital affair with James Muwanguzi, a self-proclaimed pastor known as Mutume.

As investigations unfold, Mitega remains at large, prompting authorities to escalate their search efforts. Meanwhile, Muwanguzi has been apprehended to aid in the investigation process. Preliminary inquiries suggest that Mitega harbored long-standing suspicions regarding his wife’s alleged relationship with Muwanguzi, prompting repeated confrontations and escalating tensions within the household.

Residents of Budondo have voiced concerns over Muwanguzi’s conduct, alleging that he has been enticing married women to attend his church under the guise of religious activities. Despite not being a registered pastor, Muwanguzi reportedly claimed to foresee the imminent return of Jesus before 2026, using this assertion to manipulate vulnerable individuals.

SP James Mubi, the spokesperson for Kiira region police, has condemned the heinous crime, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations to ensure justice for the deceased. The body of Nakisige has been transferred to Jinja main hospital mortuary, awaiting further legal procedures. Mubi reassured the public of the police’s commitment to apprehending Mitega and delivering swift justice.
