Bugiri: Miss Bugiri Brand, a beauty brand dedicated to empowering young women and men, has launched an initiative, Miss Bugiri Beauty Contest, to create positive change in Bugiri District and the Busoga region.
The brand aims to address pressing issues such as HIV/AIDS, STIs, teenage pregnancies, early marriages, and political exploitation by providing a platform for youth empowerment, according to Ms Esther Morine Nabwire, the Brand Chief.
Regrettably, the Busoga region, including Bugiri, grapples with alarming rates of these challenges, ranking high nationally. Poverty and fragmented family structures exacerbate these problems.
However, Ms Nabwire believes that by arming young people with knowledge, skills, and empowerment, they can unlock sustainable solutions and foster a brighter future.
We believe that putting young people at the forefront and making them change agents is key to solving the complex problems facing our community, said Ms Nabwire.
Having youth at the forefront is a reliable way to address Busoga’s challenges. To achieve this, Miss Bugiri Brand introduced several initiatives:
-
Miss Tourism Bugiri: This program aims to promote tourism in Bugiri, highlighting undiscovered sites like the man-made lake and rice scheme in Kibimba, Bululu Rocks, and Irimbi Rocks. These attractions have the potential to boost tourism, generate revenue, and create employment opportunities.
-
Miss Bugiri 2025: This icon serves as a role model, advocating for girls’ rights, empowerment, and fostering positive change.
-
Miss Ability 2025: This initiative focuses on raising awareness about the deaf community, promoting equal treatment and services. By doing so, it recognizes the deaf community’s humanity and deservingness of equal opportunities.
-
Mr and Miss Teen Mentor: This program introduces young role models to guide and support challenged teenagers. Through school visits, conferences, and community outreaches, it creates a healthy platform for teenagers to address pressing issues like sex education, family conflicts, and social pressures.
By empowering youth and providing them with platforms to drive positive change, we can address Busoga’s challenges and create a brighter future for the region, the Brand Chief stated.
These initiatives will culminate in a pageant on April 19th, 2025, at Pearls and Pillows Recreation Centre in Bukonde, Bugiri District. The theme of the event is Instilling Hope and Purpose.
