A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning, destroying property worth millions of shillings in Mutukula, Northern Division, Iganga District.

The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m., gutted two furniture workshops and several nearby houses. Eye-witnesses say the fire is believed to have started at Rollina Workshop, prompting immediate calls to the police. The fire brigade arrived promptly and worked alongside residents to contain the blaze, but unfortunately, nothing was salvaged.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, the Local Council 1 Chairperson, Mr. Mulani Ismeal, confirmed that a suspect had been apprehended and handed over to the police. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to implement fire prevention measures at their homes and businesses.

“This kind of destruction is being caused by people within the same community,” Mr. Mulani said. “Their aim is to bring others down by destroying their hard-earned property.”

One of the workshop owners, Mr. Bakwerani Yonathan, whose Rollina Workshop near Rollina School of Beauty was completely destroyed, expressed his grief and called on the government for immediate support. He also urged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident.

“All my workshops were burnt to the ground, including another one located near Railway Station Road,” he said. “My entire capital is gone. I believe this was done intentionally to ruin my life.”

Police have confirmed that a suspect is in custody as investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the fire and any potential motive behind it.
