In a disturbing and shocking report, Busoga has lost a veteran politician, Dr. Frank Nabwiso, a renowned political figure in the region and beyond.

The death of the former Kagoma County legislator was announced on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at around 10 a.m.

Dr. Nabwiso, a diehard supporter of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), reportedly breathed his last at Namirembe Hospital in Mukono after battling illnesses.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the FDC’s Special Elders’ Council.

The respected leader, who died at 83, represented Kagoma County in Jinja District as an area MP from 2001 to 2006 before being replaced in Parliament by Fredrick Nkayi.

In the 2021 general elections, Nabwiso, who was the FDC flag bearer, lost the Jinja City Mayoral seat to Mr. Peter Okocha Kasolo.

Nabwiso is remembered for his in-depth research on Busoga, as well as the politics and culture of Uganda.

His death has caused shockwaves in Busoga, with many mourning the loss of an encyclopedia of knowledge.

Kagoma North Constituency MP Alex Brandon Kintu described Nabwiso as not only a dedicated public servant but also an accomplished educationalist whose contributions to the academic and social growth of Busoga and Uganda, in general, were immense.

“He was a beacon of wisdom and a champion for development, whose tireless efforts uplifted countless lives,” Brandon said.

He stated that Busoga region and the country have lost an exceptional leader, a mentor, and a patriot, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Dr. Nabwiso’s send-off arrangements are yet to be communicated.
