Jinja district witnessed scenes of chaos today as angry parents of Kamiigo Primary School in Buyengo town council protested against the school’s headteacher, Mr. Godfrey Namuyoga. Accused of incompetence and mistreatment of both staff and students, Namuyoga narrowly escaped being lynched by the enraged crowd.

Reports from the scene indicate that the parents, frustrated by what they perceive as Namuyoga’s disrespect towards teachers and students, took matters into their own hands. Allegations against Namuyoga include the destruction of teachers’ gardens using school resources and overburdening young learners with excessive assignments related to his personal agricultural activities.

Charles Kasaayi, the chairperson of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA), attempted to pacify the agitated parents but was unsuccessful in quelling their fury. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in the disruption of a planned parents’ meeting.

According to SP James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson, law enforcement officers were compelled to intervene, resorting to the use of live bullets to disperse the unruly crowd. Mubi emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts through legal channels and cautioned against vigilantism.

As tensions subside, Mr. Namuyoga finds refuge in Kakira Central Police Station while authorities work to address the grievances raised by the parents. Police presence at the school remains heightened to ensure the safety of the students and prevent further disturbances.

Meanwhile, Mr. Namuyoga, fearing for his safety, suspects the involvement of a disgruntled teacher behind the orchestrated chaos but refrains from divulging further details.
