Residents of Kaliro Town Council in Kaliro District were shocked by unidentified gunmen who shot a woman dead while she was entering her home late at night. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Betty, was killed in Nakiyanja Zone, Kaliro Town Council.

Betty was walking home with her husband, Babalanda Rogers, from work when unknown assailants ambushed them at their gate and shot her. She died at the scene.

LC1 Chairperson Zuena Nkoono confirmed the incident, stating that the couple had lived in the area for some time. “It was around 8 p.m. when we heard gunshots,” Zuena said. “When we rushed to the scene, we found Betty had been shot dead.” Zuena added that Betty appeared to be of Banyankole descent and was living with her husband, Babalanda Rogers, who works as a Centenary Bank agent in Kaliro Town, near Kaliro High School.

The chairperson called on security forces to enhance protection in the rapidly growing town, as criminals are beginning to target the area.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha also confirmed the incident and condemned the attack. He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that those responsible will be brought to justice. Betty’s body was taken to Bumanya Health Centre IV for a postmortem, after which it will be handed over to her relatives.
