Jinja: In a distressing incident, a 30-year-old man known as Bulo, or Scopus, was arrested in Wairaka trading center in Jinja district on allegations of defiling a primary four pupil. The suspect, whose primary occupation involves ferrying water to residents, was taken into custody at Kakira Central Police Station.

According to reports, the accused, Bulo, is said to have lured the young girl into a romantic relationship on January 8, 2024. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly playing with friends when she was forcibly grabbed by Bulo. The unlawful act allegedly occurred in a kiosk located behind the main house.

SP James Mubi, the Kiira Region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was immediately taken for a medical examination. The suspect’s health is also expected to be examined. A case of aggravated defilement has been registered against Bulo at Kakira CPS.

Mubi emphasized that the police responded promptly upon receiving the distressing reports, leading to the apprehension of the suspect. Investigations into the case are underway, and details indicate that the victim’s grandmother, with whom she resides, was not present at home during the time of the incident.

Halimah Namuwaya, a local salon operator in Bugembe, Jinja city Northern division, commented on the prevalence of illegal sexual activities, attributing them to drug addiction among certain individuals. Namuwaya suggested that some young girls may be enticed by financial incentives due to extreme poverty in their households.

“These days young girls are sexually attractive, and most of them are sometimes not raped; they take themselves to lustful men who end up defiling them,” she remarked.

The incident highlights the urgent need for community awareness, education, and preventive measures to protect vulnerable individuals from such heinous acts. The ongoing investigation will play a crucial role in delivering justice and ensuring the safety of the victim and others in the community.
