The 2025 NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Championship ended in dramatic style at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, with both the women’s and men’s finals producing the kind of heart-stopping action that defines champions.
In the women’s final, APR Women staged a sensational comeback to defeat Rwanda Police Women 3–2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-12), turning what looked like a certain defeat into a crowning moment. After dropping the first two sets, APR’s resilience shone through. Anchored by the formidable blocking duo of Diane and Sharon and powered by Benitha’s relentless front-row hitting, they clawed back from a six-point deficit in the fourth set to level the match.
With momentum firmly on their side, APR stormed into the fifth set, capitalising on Police’s reception errors. Though Police fought back to 11-11, APR held firm, pulling off two crucial blocks before sealing victory with Benitha’s final attack off the block. It was a triumph built on grit, composure and belief—crowning APR as the 2025 champions and delivering one of the most memorable finishes in the tournament’s history.
On the men’s side, hosts Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) rose to the occasion, defeating Kenya’s Equity Volleyball Club 3–1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 29-27) in a high-octane final. Both teams had survived gruelling five-set semi-finals—KAVC edging KCCA and Equity battling past Chema—and entered the final with everything to play for.
After splitting the first two sets, KAVC found another gear. They overpowered Equity in the third and held their nerve in a pulsating fourth set, eventually taking it 29-27 to seal the title in front of a roaring home crowd.
This year’s tournament featured 46 teams from six countries and a total prize pool of 46 million Ugandan shillings. KAVC and APR each walked away with 10 million as champions, while runners-up Equity and Rwanda Police earned 8 million apiece.
