Soroti City successfully defended their T20 Women’s League title after securing a 16-run victory against their sister club, Olila Cricket Club, in an exciting final held on Saturday afternoon at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The match began with Olila CC winning the toss and electing to bowl first. However, they struggled to keep Soroti City to a manageable score of 125 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Alako was the standout performer, smashing a quickfire 43 off just 22 balls, which proved to be the backbone of Soroti City’s innings. Timing Patricia (15) and Iloku Esther (18) had given Soroti City a solid start before Alako’s explosives.  Later, Janet Mbabzi added 18 runs to further build the innings as the team reached a competitive total.

In the chase, Olila CC had a shaky start, as Soroti City’s bowlers, particularly Evelyn Anyipo, caused early trouble. However, Olila’s captain, Phiona Khulume, led from the front with a determined 33, while her partner Malisa Ariokot contributed 32 runs. Together, they built a strong partnership of 42 runs, giving Olila hope of chasing down the target, but fell short, managing only 109 runs before their 20 overs ran out.

Anyipo and Patricia on the other hand took two crucial wickets each for Soroti City, disrupting Olila’s batting order and breaking partnerships at key moments.

With this victory, Soroti City claimed their second consecutive T20 crown. On the other hand, Olila CC, who last won the title in 2017, will have to wait longer for another championship win.
