    Two brothers arrested in Jinja for alleged machete attacks

    Jinja: Two brother are under detention in Jinja district for reportedly being behind the attacks against locals with machetes. Issa Kalulu, 24, resident of Mukwanga zone and his young brother Halid Kalulu of 21 years and resident of Kabi zone both in Buwenge town Council are the suspects in claim.

    Police confirmed on Monday afternoon that the duo was apprehended last evening on Sunday, May 19, 2024. It is said that they (suspects) have been terrorising residents of Buwenge town council.

    SP James Mubi, Kiira regional police mouse-piece the arrest the suspect was after the help of Kabi zone chairperson Mr Muzamiru Nabikamba, who made alarms after coming across Halid (who has been on wanted list) enroute his home.

    The local leader’s alarms attracted the attention of the local residents who unlawfully wanted to have the two brothers lynched. The angry locals were hindered by the Buwenge police patrol vehicle that immediately arrived at the scene.

    Mubi said that upon arrest, a search was conducted where hammers and pliers were recovered from their pockets. Additional additional search was conducted at their respective areas of residences, recovering housebreaking implements including iron bars, big torches, , masks, hammers, and new pangas.

    It is alleged that the suspects have been key in causing the insecurity in the greater Jinja district and beyond.

    “By extension, the suspects have been terrorizing residents of Buwenge Town Council in Jinja district Bugembe, Mpumudde in Jinja city and have operational bases in Iganga, Busia, and Oyam districts,” added Mubi.

    Kenneth Mawerere, a resident in Buwenge Buwenge town, says the suspects have been dealing in chapati selling business at Musigiti zone in the same town.

    “Can you imagine those people have been humble persons yet they are the ones giving us pressure in Buwenge,” said Mawerere.
