Uganda Cricket Cranes gear up for a crucial phase in their World Cup preparations with a 14-day training camp in Sri Lanka from the 10th to the 23rd of February. This training stint comes as part of their meticulous planning ahead of the World Cup scheduled for June in the West Indies, where Uganda is grouped with hosts West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and PNG in Group C.

During their time in Sri Lanka, the team will engage in seven T20 matches against select sides, providing invaluable match practice and exposure to top-quality competition. The picturesque city of Galle will serve as the base for the Cricket Cranes throughout their stay in Sri Lanka.

Notably, the squad sees the return of Juma Miyagi, who has recovered from a back injury that sidelined him since April last year. Additionally, Alpesh Ramjani and Bilal Hassun, who missed the India tour, have been included in the final traveling squad. The team also maintains continuity with Fred Achellam, Ronald Lutaaya, and Innocent Mwebaze, who have impressed with their performances.

Interim Head Coach Jackson Ogwang outlined the objectives of the Sri Lanka tour, emphasizing the importance of providing the players with ample game time against formidable opposition. He stressed the need for skill development and experimentation with different player combinations to enhance the team’s readiness for the upcoming T20 matches.

As the team embarks on their Sri Lanka tour, Captain Brian Masaba expressed optimism about the quality of preparations they received during their recent tour of India. He emphasized the importance of facing top-quality opposition in Sri Lanka to elevate their game and fine-tune their skills for the World Cup.

Echoing Masaba’s sentiments, Frank Nsubuga highlighted the invaluable lessons learned during their time in India and expressed confidence that facing similar challenges in Sri Lanka would further enhance their preparations for the World Cup.

Travelling Squad: Roger Mukasa, Simon Ssesazi, Robinson Obuya, Fred Achellam, Dinesh Nakrani, Frank Nsubuga, Brian Masaba (Captain), Alpesh Ramjani, Kenneth Waiswa, Ronald Lutaaya, Kakuru Cyrus, Henry Ssenyondo, Bilal Hassun, Juma Miyagi, Innocent Mwebaze

Officials: Jackson Ogwang (Head Coach), Tusiime Steve (Team Analyst), Shamim Nassali (Physiotherapist), Emmanuenalla Aroma (S&C Coach), Charles Waiswa (Team Manager).
