In a heartening initiative aimed at fostering economic empowerment among people with disabilities, the Luuka Abirishi Foundation recently distributed goats to 157 individuals in Irongo Sub county. Spearheaded by Counsel David Balondemu, Chairman of the Kampala Land Board and Speaker of the Luuka Lukiko, the event served as a beacon of hope for those seeking to break free from the shackles of poverty.
Balondemu, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, emphasized the importance of self-reliance, urging individuals with disabilities to engage in income-generating activities. “Taking the initiative to empower oneself holds the key to prosperity,” he declared, underscoring the potential for personal growth beyond reliance on external assistance.
Each recipient was bestowed with a valuable gift – adults received three goats each, while children were given two. Additionally, Balondemu pledged further support, promising to provide wheelchairs to facilitate mobility for those in need.
Mawelere Salim, the chairman of Luuka Abirishi Foundation, shed light on the organization’s mission, highlighting the significance of the goat donation in lifting disabled individuals out of poverty. The gesture symbolized a tangible step towards fostering self-sufficiency and financial stability within the community.
Kitundu Robert, Vice Chairperson of Irongo Sub County, echoed the sentiment of responsible stewardship, urging beneficiaries to nurture and care for their newfound assets diligently. “With proper care, these goats have the potential to pave the way for a brighter future,” he affirmed.
Shaban Bamutalileki, the District Councilor of Irongo Sub County, emphasized the importance of long-term planning, advising recipients to refrain from selling their goats and instead focus on nurturing them to fruition. This collective effort, he emphasized, would catalyze sustainable change and upliftment within the community.
