    Luuka North MP pledges to boost sports and youth talent development

    In a significant move towards the development of Luuka district, Luuka North Member of Parliament, Hon. Luke Kyobe Inhensiko, has pledged to actively promote sports and youth talent in the region. This commitment was made during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Luke Kyobe Inhensiko Christmas Cup, held at Naigobya Technical Ground.

    The MP emphasized the vital role sports play in fostering development and nurturing talents among the youth. He outlined his plans to leverage sports as a catalyst for progress in Luuka North, encouraging the community to support these initiatives to elevate Luuka’s reputation in the realm of sports.

    The Christmas Cup, a football tournament, witnessed the participation of eleven teams, including Propel Soccer Academy, Budhabangula, Naigobya, Ikumbya, Gwembuzi, Bukoova, Nabyoto, Bukendi, Kiyunga United, Nakabugu, and Ntayigirwa. Propel Soccer Academy emerged as the champions, securing the trophy after a thrilling 1-1 draw with Budhabangula FC. In the subsequent penalty shootout, Propel Soccer Academy claimed victory with a score of 5-4.

    “I want to commit myself that I will continue supporting sports to enable Luuka to get famous in sports because what I saw today inspires me, and I know if we continue like this, even in the Busoga provincial football, Luuka will take the 2024 Trophy,” stated Hon. Kyobe.

    In the women’s category, Bulongo FC secured the trophy by defeating Ikumbya FC with a score of 4-1. The 2023 champions, Propel Soccer Academy, received gold medals, the trophy, and 500,000/=, while runners-up Budhabangula FC were awarded silver medals and 400,000/=. Naigobya, securing the third position, received 300,000/=. All participating teams were given 200,000/= each.

    For the girls’ football tournament, Bulongo FC claimed the title, receiving gold medals, the trophy, and 400,000/=. Ikumbya FC, the runners-up, were awarded silver medals and 300,000/=.

    Looking ahead to 2024, Hon. Kyobe announced plans to involve every parish in the tournament. He urged the people of Luuka to unite and collaborate in the development efforts, emphasizing his commitment to advancing Luuka North.

    Leaders present at the event, including LC IIIs chairman Hussein Taitika, NRM Mobilizer Muhammad Bogere, and Woman District Councilor Hon. Mirembe Cissy, expressed their admiration for the unprecedented success of the tournament. They pledged to work alongside the MP to further promote youth talents in the region.
