In a heartwarming initiative aimed at empowering the girl child and fostering educational growth, Phoenix Girls Initiative (PGI) recently made a significant donation of scholastic materials to Kigulamo Primary School in Bugweri district. The donation, comprising books, pens, sanitary pads, clothes, shoes, and liquid soap, reached over 300 pupils, marking a crucial step in uplifting the educational experience of young learners.

PGI, a community-based organization in Jinja, is dedicated to promoting skill education among young people, with a particular focus on providing sanitary pads through various school projects. The organization’s impactful programs have extended to schools such as Density College in Iganga, St. Joseph Secondary School, and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Jinja city. In these institutions, PGI has conducted career guidance and counseling programs, aiming to motivate students pursuing higher education.

Farid Muganda Musoose, the Chief Executive Officer of PGI, emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges faced by underprivileged children, particularly girls, who often find it difficult to focus on their studies due to the lack of basic necessities. Muganda, sharing the organization’s empathetic approach, stated, “We give not because we have a lot, but because we understand what it means to have nothing, especially for the girl child.”

During the recent donation at Kigulamo Primary School, PGI extended its support to over 100 parents, providing clothes and liquid soap to enhance sanitation practices in the community. The organization also contributed financially to facilitate the education of disabled learners at the school, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education.

Looking ahead, Muganda unveiled PGI’s plans to offer financial assistance in the upcoming academic year. The funds will be allocated to procure instruments for Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) programs at Kigulamo Primary School, recognizing the school’s achievements in singing competitions within Bugweri district.

Ms. Hajirah Nalukwago, the headteacher of Kigulamo Primary School, expressed gratitude for the initiative’s collaboration with the school. She urged parents to prioritize their children’s education and called for ongoing support to empower the school’s 600-plus learners, ensuring a nurturing environment that inspires bright futures. The Phoenix Girls Initiative’s dedication to education and community empowerment continues to make a positive impact in Bugweri and beyond.
