In an unwavering commitment to tackle the issue of teenage pregnancies in Luuka district, the non-governmental organization (NGO) PECA Women and Children’s Foundation has initiated a transformative plan to empower young girls and secure their futures.

PECA has unveiled a groundbreaking program in Luuka district titled “The Future is Female.” The program’s primary objective is to provide support to girls who have faced unplanned pregnancies by equipping them with valuable skills such as sewing, pad-making, and engaging in other educational activities.

Annet Njjuba, the visionary leader behind PECA, explained the rationale behind launching this program in Luuka district. She highlighted that their research indicated that many teenage pregnancies stemmed from financial hardships. By imparting practical skills to these girls, PECA aims to enable them to earn a livelihood, helping them become financially independent and less susceptible to negative influences.

Njjuba further revealed that PECA has established three dedicated centers in Luuka district, strategically located in Kiyunga, Budhabangula, and Nawampiti. Each center is currently providing professional training to 40 young girls, empowering them with practical skills that can shape their future.

Njjuba urged parents, community leaders in Luuka, and especially young girls, to embrace this life-changing project. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of early pregnancies among peers and encouraged parents to take active roles in nurturing and guiding their children, regardless of gender.

PECA has a commendable track record in Luuka for championing children’s education. Through various initiatives, including the renovation of schools by constructing essential facilities like toilets, bathrooms, and kitchens, PECA has significantly contributed to improving educational infrastructure in the district.

Janat Luwano, the Luuka district labor officer, expressed her commitment to defending children’s rights and extended gratitude to PECA for its dedication to the younger generation. The event was attended by notable figures, including DEO Luuka Francis Kamyuka, District Community Development Officer Bikadho Aminsi, LC III Luuka Town Council Kawuta Akabway, and other local leaders who gathered to support PECA’s transformative mission.

PECA’s “The Future is Female” program stands as a beacon of hope in Luuka district, aiming to empower girls and reduce teenage pregnancies while building a brighter future for the community as a whole.
