Cricket Uganda has officially adopted a new constitution, marking a major step in aligning the federation with Uganda’s new sports governance framework.

The constitution was approved during a Special General Meeting held at the Uganda Olympic Committee offices in Lugogo on Saturday, with more than 120 delegates from districts and member clubs across the country in attendance.

The new constitution replaces the former Uganda Cricket Association governance framework and brings Cricket Uganda in line with the National Sports Act, Cap. 151 (2023), and the National Sports Regulations, 2025.

The meeting was witnessed by National Council of Sports (NCS) official Sarah Chelangat, who commended the turnout, describing it as the largest she had seen at a Cricket Uganda general meeting. She noted that previous meetings had attracted representatives from only a few clubs, unlike the nationwide representation seen on Saturday.

Cricket Uganda President Jackson Kavuma said the reforms were driven by the need to satisfy governance requirements set by the NCS, including wider national representation, leadership structures, voting rights and dispute resolution mechanisms. He said the federation’s governance had evolved to reflect the growth of cricket beyond its traditional club base.

Among the key changes is the introduction of a two-tier membership structure. The eight founding clubs will remain Full Members with voting rights, while five Regional Cricket Associations—Central, Eastern, Northern, Western and Southern—have been formally recognised to strengthen the game’s administration and development across the country.

The constitution also introduces a four-year electoral cycle for the Executive Board, two-term limits for directors and stronger governance provisions on accountability and conflicts of interest.

The new structure took effect immediately with the election of the federation’s first Regional Directors. Allan Ssemakula was elected to represent the Central Region, while Marjorie Nankinga was elected to represent the Western Region, marking the beginning of regional representation on the Cricket Uganda Executive Board.
