Jinja: Excitement is sweeping across Busoga as the Kingdom prepares to mark the 11th Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Kingdom Headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja City.
The historic celebration, expected to draw over 50,000 people, will run under the theme:
“A Malaria Free Busoga for Generations to Come.”
Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Owek. Richard Mafumo, told journalists that preparations are well underway, with special focus on mobilizing Basoga from all walks of life to throng Bugembe.
“This event is for everyone. As usual, when Baba Kyabazinga appears to his people, no one needs invitations. Let anyone come,” Mafumo declared.
He noted that the Kyabazinga’s leadership has inspired social transformation, from his appointment as UN Goodwill Ambassador against teenage pregnancy and early marriages to talent promotion through the Masaza Cup.
“Busoga has achieved,” Mafumo added, citing partnerships signed with other kingdoms and institutions across the globe, which he described as “a significant signal of transformation.”
This year’s coronation is particularly symbolic, coinciding with the Kingdom’s launch of “Abasadha N’empango”, a campaign to eliminate early marriages and teenage pregnancies in Busoga and beyond.
The Kyabazinga has also been at the forefront of the malaria elimination drive, hence this year’s rallying call for a “Malaria Free Busoga.”
Protocol chief Owek. Andrew Ntange emphasized that the coronation is purely cultural, cautioning against attempts to politicize it.
“Why should one come with a People Power or NRM ballet or cape to the Kyabazinga’s event? This is a non-political function which shouldn’t be taken advantage of,” Ntange told reporters.
As the Kingdom marks 11 years of the Kyabazinga’s reign, the anniversary is set to showcase Busoga’s cultural pride, unity, and resilience.
With drumming, dance, prayer, and royal pageantry expected, Bugembe will once again become the beating heart of Busoga as subjects and well-wishers celebrate a leader who has championed health, education, culture, and social development.
