All-round strength carries Uganda past Kenya in Entebbe

Uganda maintained their unbeaten streak in the Pearl of Africa T20 Series with a commanding 28-run win over Kenya at the Entebbe Cricket Oval on Monday.

While the spotlight often falls on the batters, it was veteran spinner Frank Nsubuga who turned the tide Uganda’s way. The 43-year-old, with decades of experience behind him, delivered a match-winning spell that dismantled Kenya’s top order and left them with too steep a climb. His remarkable 3/10 in just three overs rightly earned him the Player of the Match accolade.

Earlier, Uganda had to recover from early jitters after losing two wickets inside the powerplay. But a gritty partnership between Raghav Dhawan (41) and Robinson Obuya (40) anchored the innings, giving the hosts a platform to push on. Captain Juma Miyaji’s quickfire 19 and a late surge from Dinesh Nakrani (24* off 14) lifted Uganda to a solid 157/5.

Kenya’s reply was unconvincing from the outset. Nsubuga struck in the second over, removing Kenya’s captain Dhiren Gondaria and trapping Tanzeel Sheikh lbw the very next ball. The early collapse left Kenya gasping at 12/3.

Rakep Patel offered resistance with a composed 58, supported briefly by Sachin Gill’s 30, but Uganda’s bowlers never loosened their grip. Cosmas Kyewuta cleaned up the tail, finishing with 3/21 as Kenya closed on 129/7.
